Sacramento CERT provides Public Safety support and Disaster Preparation/Response Training for the Sacramento region.
Public Safety Support
Sacramento CERT provides Public Safety Support as requested via the Sacramento Fire Department. Sacramento CERT offers members medical response training to the Emergency Medical Responder level. This allows Sacramento CERT to provide Basic Life Support (BLS) services as requested to free up Sacramento Fire Department assets for other services. Sacramento CERT can also provide traffic management, public awareness, firefighter rehabilitation, communications, and logistical support services to the City of Sacramento as needed.
A sub-set of Sacramento CERT members are specially trained to operate within the Incident Command System at a disaster scene next to professional responders. Sacramento CERT members who attain this level of training can volunteer to be deployed anywhere in California for up to two weeks via the mutual aid system.
Sacramento CERT also supports the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team CA Task Force 7 by providing mobilization and demobilization support.
Disaster Preparation/Response Training
Sacramento CERT provides FEMA CERT training to the citizens of the Sacramento region free of charge. Two Basic CERT Academy classes are conducted every year providing approximately 24 hours of disaster preparedness and response training covering the following:
- Disaster Preparedness
- Fire Suppression and Utility Controls
- Light Search and Rescue
- Team Organization
- Disaster Psychology
- Disaster Medical Operations
- Terrorism
Academy classes are held one night a week and on Saturdays for three weeks, with the final session being conducted as a disaster simulation – allowing students to put into practice the tactics and techniques learned during the classroom sessions.
Additionally, Sacramento CERT provides advanced training to those citizens who wish to become a deployable member of the Sacramento CERT program.
There are three levels of training within Sacramento CERT, highlighted on the CERT Training page.
